Springsteen to tour east coast Australia only; “no disrespect” to Adelaide, Perth

Bruce Springsteen’s Australian promoters have apologised to fans in Perth, Adelaide and across New Zealand, explaining that while his recently announced tour won’t be visiting their cities next March it’s not due to “disrespect or lack of love for these other cities”.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Frontier Touring have announced that the tour cannot be extended beyond Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney due to the production costs and time constraints. “As the tour can only be in the country for a certain period of time it has therefore been limited to the east coast of Australia,” Frontier explained. “We appreciate that not everyone has the time or funds to travel to another city to see an artist they love but many variables were looked at before this itinerary was finalised. There is absolutely no disrespect or lack of love for these other cities but in the end the crucial thing was finding a time period to bring Bruce and the E Street Band out to Australia that worked in with their other commitments.”

According to the statement, the tour has been scheduled over the Easter period so that is possible for fans to travel to the east coast for the shows: “We know it’s not viable for everyone but we’ve tried to put it at a time where you hopefully won’t need to miss work … We’ve already heard some great stories of fans planning road trips with their friends and families.”

Springsteen was last in Australia way back in March 2003 when he played just four shows – stadium concerts in Sydney and Melbourne, and a pair of arena gigs in Brisbane. Since then he’s released five albums and played nearly 500 gigs without setting foot in Australia. In March 2013 he’ll return to play a special show at Hanging Rock in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, with support from Jimmy Barnes and The Rubens, plus shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. While shows in Perth and Adelaide have effectively been ruled out by the statement, Springsteen’s touring schedule leaves open the possibility of additional dates in Sydney, Melbourne and/or Brisbane – although nothing from Frontier has been confirmed
