[...] John Gorman, WMMS program director: That was the summer Dennis Kucinich had the vote recall. The mayor and city council were snarling at each other like dogs. Cleveland was sliding into default. The Springsteen concert was such an amazing high at the time, considering everything else was going south – and fast. As crazy as it sounds, rock ‘n’ roll was one of the few salvations in this city. [...]

Never judge a book by it's cover'.
BeTrue.nl

As a great trilogy of albums by any artist, it doesn't matter whether you start with Born to Run or Darkness on the Edge of Town, the 2 albums that follow each one of these makes an incredible trifecta.

Thanks Dick, but all the credit should go to Peter and Eddy. They worked hard and long to put this article together, and were extremely patient to see this finally published.

This webpage offers “in sight” to the 1978 tour and the important things that transpired during that time. The Light in Darkness book covers the 1978 tour when he returned from his recording hiatus due to a law suit with his manager, Mike Appel. I was first introduced to Bruce on the 78 tour and was lucky enough to have some photos from two shows in Detroit. I was only familiar with the Born to Run song at the time, but after my first Bruce show, I was all onboard. Searching for boots, (vinyl at the time), led me to his past musical recordings which simply elevated Bruce from a one hit wonder to his godlike stature he held with me for many years. That first tour in 1978 left me preaching about Bruce to the uninformed when ever music was mentioned. Thirty four years later, I have all 17 released albums, released and booted videos, boots of individual shows, books and close to 800 photos I have taken thru the years fill my Bruce room. Magazines, ticket stubs and set lists of the 68 shows I have seen complete my Bruce history. And more often than not, the 1978 recordings are put on my car cd as I …”let the wind blow back my hair”.

I’m glad to see someone seperate Bruce’s whole career and concentrate on the 1978 tour. There was no better sound, no better music, and quite frankly no better show in the business at the time. No artist has been documented like Bruce’s 1978 tour. And its all in the book titled THE LIGHT IN DARKNESS. This webpage helps inform those who were not lucky enough to see that tour. The recordings are available, the videos are available, and the memories I have from my two 1978 tour shows are as vivid in my mind as anything in my life. My family, my friends, and even casual acquaintances know of my love for Bruce. His music has paralelled my life and it has been a great companion as I grew older. This website has helped me to concentrate on those early years and I still enjoy the songs that he has played all these years. I have heard Darkness on the Edge of Town at every show of the 68 I have seen live.

If you missed that ’78 tour, the book and this webpage will help you realize what a special time it was. You now have the recordings and videos available thanks to Bruce’s dedication to his fan base. I suggest you put on one of the shows from that era, and listen to history. I think I’ll do that now.
